First Look!

The all new finisher's medal for the 2025 Battle for Chattanooga race series debuted today. For 2025, the medal features the First Wisconsin Cavalry monument at the Chickamauga and Chattanooga National Military Park in Georgia. Carved from a massive granite boulder,  the monument's image of a riderless horse is a familiar symbol at military funerals and commemorations signifying soldiers who gave their lives on the battlefield. The monument was erected in 1894, four years after the Chickamauga Battlefield was established as our nation's first official military park, and has become well-loved among the many notable monuments throughout the Battlefield Park.

The Battle for Chattanooga race series was established by the Chattanooga Track Club in 2008 to celebrate our region's historic spaces and the ongoing work of the National Park Service and many, tireless local volunteers who preserve and protect our public lands. Chattanooga Track Club is one of very few organizations in the country permitted to hold organized races on National Park land. For more than fifty-five years Chattanooga Track Club has welcomed thousands of people every year, from every corner of the country, to enjoy safe, fun races within the scenic grounds of the National Park.

Battle for Chattanooga race series is three races, each held on Chickamauga and Chattanooga National Military Park lands in our area. The second race of the series, Chickamauga Chase, will happen this Saturday, April 12, at the Chickamauga Battlefield within sight of the Riderless Horse monument. Participants who complete all three races in the series will receive this unique finisher's medal at the final race, Missionary Ridge Road Race on August 2, 2025.

The first race of the series was held November 2024. More than 1,600 people completed the Chickamauga Battlefield Marathon, Half marathon & 5k and were automatically entered in the Battle for Chattanooga Race Series.
